The vertical integration model of agricultural cooperatives became a consistent source. Yunnan Wenshan Notoginseng Cooperative finished organic cultivation (heavy metal cadmium content in the soil ≤0.2mg/kg) and HPLC quality inspection, purity of Wenshan Notoginseng’s Notoginseng saponin extract reached 95% (industry average 80%), passed the EU EDQM certification in 2022, and the price for export was as much as 120/kg (67% more than the price of un-certified goods). E-commerce platform laboratory verification services transform the supply chain. Amazon Lab-certified herb extract sellers achieved 40% increases in sales during 2023, such as India’s Arjuna Natural curcumin C3 Complex with 95% purity that enjoyed a return rate of only 2.1% (industry average 8.7%) and had a 53% return rate. According to Alibaba International Station statistics, the sales of green tea extract (EGCG≥94%) with ISO 22000 certification accounted for 78% of the overall transaction in this product category, price ￥800-￥1500/kg, and the fake product complaint rate fell from 15% in 2021 to 4% in 2023.
New technologies of scientific research institutions bring new methods. The nanocarrier encapsulation technology invented by MIT in 2024 improved the bioavailability of paclitaxel herb extract by 35% (peak blood concentration of 4.2μg/mL), and there was a 22% improvement in tumor inhibition in clinical trials. The steam distillation process of eucalyptus extract of Saje Natural Wellness Canada (steam flow 0.8m³/h) ensures concentration of 1, 8-cineulin ≥70%, and the unit price of store customers increases to 65 (industry average 42).
The industrial grade raw materials conformity determines the range of application. Firmenich’s bio-based natural vanillin extract (purification ≥99%) dominates 31% of the global food flavor market, and its proprietary biotech bioconversion process (92% enzyme catalytic yield) saves 19% in production cost over chemical synthesis. As indicated in the 2023 EU RASFF system data, herb extract failure of not passing the ISO 16128 standard achieved a 63% rejection rate (mainly because of an excessive pesticide residue), while 28% of the compliant volume has risen year-on-year through imports.

The portable near-infrared spectrometer (900-1700nm wavelength range) enabled the field detection error rate of the main active components of herb extract to be ≤3%, and the laboratory HPLC detection time cost (error ≤0.5%) was reduced from 72 hours to 3 minutes. A 2023 test by Consumer Reports found that only 58 percent of the St. John’s wort extract available in commerce contained the declared hypericin content (nominal 0.3 percent actually 0.12-0.28 percent), while 97 percent of products that were USP certified contained the declared content.
